Our client is a market leader in sustainable energy across North America.  They are undergoing a transformation within their industry and their execution platform.  As they continue to grow, the Vice President Information Technology will play an integral role in supporting the company’s business strategy along with being responsible for the overall effective and secure management and performance of its Information Technology platform. Experience in deploying platform-wide systems, effective integration of acquisitions, and digitizing businesses will be key.

Reporting Relationship and Accountability: The VP IT reports to the Chief Financial Officer, with principal accountably for the following:

  • The direction and strategy of Information Technology platform within the North American organization
  • The implementation of technology within the organization to support all business initiatives; current agenda includes implementation of:
    • Navision, CRM (Salesforce), CMMS, Web site re-design
  • The management and effective operational performance of the IT platform including, networks, application systems, and service desk support. Assesses performance of IT spend vs industry benchmarks.
  • Industry advocate for the role of information and systems in District Energy (ie. Analytics, Digital Energy, Smart City Infrastructure)
  • The implementation of the processes and controls to effectively manage Information technology as an asset of the organization
  • Regular briefings of progress on initiatives to the IT Steering Committee
  • Lead significant expenditures pertaining to Information Technology to the CFO, and to the IT Steering Committee as needed
  • Communicates to all levels of management and employees regarding various IT initiatives
  • Provide consulting to senior management in IT areas relating to M&A activities
  • Liaise with other company entities in areas pertaining to Information technology and act as a technology representative
  • Develop, in conjunction with the user community, service level objectives that are realistic and which responsibly meet the enterprise business requirements.
  • Manage the performance of Service Level Agreement metrics for external (outsourced) IT operations of the platform, and report on performance as part of IT’s overall performance to senior management
  • Develop and maintain IT policies and procedures to assure appropriate operational controls are in place for day-to-day functioning of IT, as well as backup and recovery
  • Ensure the organization maintains a responsible level of risk in areas related to business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Ensure that all aspects of cyber security as it relates to the IT platform are effectively addressed
  • Ensure that all compliance reporting related to IT is addressed
  • In conjunction with the CFO, prepare and manage the IT budget and ensure that it effectively aligns with overall strategic plans
  • Position IT to be an enabler for acquisitions whereby the platform becomes a strategic asset in integrating new entities into the platform

 Required Skills:

  • This position requires a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or BSc in Computer Science with 10 plus years of experience in a senior leadership role in Information Technology, ideally at a Director or Vice President level
  • Ability to build and manage outsourced teams that are flexible, adaptable, and results oriented for project related work
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to manage initiatives effectively, meeting budget, quality, and timelines on a consistent basis
  • Has solid experience with managing an IT platform that consists of a third party managed Wide Area Network, Hosted computing facility, a third-party Service Desk, with exposure in multiple regions, and time zones,
  • Has a strong understanding of MPLS networks, VM clustering, subscription models for software applications such as email, Office 365, etc.
  • Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Dynamics Navision, CRMs, relational databases such as MS SQL, and related tools for report development
  • Has a solid understanding of application SDLCs and project management methodologies, including both traditional waterfall and agile
  • Has solid experience with an ITIL framework for managing IT operations or has developed standard operating procedures and best practices for running IT Operations
  • Ability to design and implement an IT Operations Dashboard for monitoring and reporting performance related metrics
  • Implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, procurement, and provisioning of IT services
  • Ability to work under pressure, complex matrix managed organizational resources, multiple deadlines, effectively handle stressful situations, and work with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities in effecting change to a rapidly growing organization, not being afraid to take educated risks, while learning from failures, and collaborates effectively within a team environment
  • Experience negotiating and managing relationships with technology partners and managed services providers
  • Excellent Project Management skills, PMP certification would be an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
