Our client, a corporate real estate company in the GTA, is seeking a System Engineer: Storage, to help drive organizational vision for industry leading growth and increased market share using technology as an enabler and difference maker.  Our client is a pioneer in their field and now manages thousands of properties all over North America.  This position is primarily responsible for implementing, maintaining and managing storage platforms and VMWare environment. This position is expected to lead the team in their areas of expertise including researching the latest technologies, working with vendors, providing recommended solutions and implementing best practices.  In addition, this position will be responsible for third level support as required

Responsibilities:

 

•        Design, install, configure, and manage the following systems, with full accountability across the technology lifecycle:

o        Virtualized server and desktop infrastructure

o        Multivendor SAN/NAS arrays and storage fabric

o        Multisite disk-based backup infrastructure

o        Disaster recovery capabilities, including data replication, orchestration and run books

•        Proactively manage and monitor the infrastructure, performing periodic health checks, firmware upgrades and patching as required

•        Responsible for change initiation, approval, and implementation for systems under management

•        Responsible for capacity planning/management, system monitoring, and configuration management

•        Provide technical leadership in the adoption of new technologies and industry best practices

•        Support delivery of strategic roadmaps to evolve OMERS’s infrastructure portfolio, and provide subject matter expertise as roadmaps are planned and implemented

•        Maintain accurate design, hardware/software inventory, and operational documentation

•        Continuously improve delivery and quality of infrastructure services through scripting and automation

•        Troubleshoot issues and take proactive measures to reduce impact and risk of reoccurrence

•        Technical prime in major incidents affecting the computing and storage environment; accountable for identification of the underlying root cause, and all remediation activities

•        Jointly develop, validate and approve infrastructure bills of material as part of the procurement cycle

•        Jointly develop and maintain technology infrastructure standards

•        Comprehensive understanding of the concepts, tools and best practices regarding the design and integration of multi-tiered, highly available, scalable infrastructure environments

•        In-depth knowledge of the following technologies, from technical design to day-to-day administration:

o        Server hardware (Cisco, HP, Dell)

o        Server and desktop virtualization (VMware, Citrix)

o        SAN, NAS and unified storage (EMC, HP, Brocade)

o        Backup infrastructure (EMC Avamar & Data Domain, Commvault Simpana)

o        Systems management and monitoring tools (VMware vROps)

o        Orchestration, scripting, and automation tools (VMware, Microsoft, native tools)

o        Disaster recovery tools and technologies (array-based replication, VMware SRM)

o        OS platforms (Windows, Linux)

o        Knowledge of network infrastructure, including routing and switching, firewalls and leading network appliances such as load balancers (Cisco, F5, Netscaler)

 

Must Have:

•        3+ years of experience as a senior engineer or comparable role, demonstrating technical design and implementation capabilities for compute and shared storage platforms in an enterprise environment

•        8+ years of experience with hands on installation, configuration, and administration of a broad range of infrastructure systems – virtualized server/compute platforms, high availability and disaster recovery designs, network and security integration, storage infrastructure, and operational tools

•        Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

•        Experience with technology product evaluation, selection, acquisition and deployment processes

•        Experience with calculating the total cost of ownership of an infrastructure solution

•        Experience with the preparation of technical design, implementation, system administration and operational documentation

 

Nice to Have:

•        Expertise in the following areas is highly desirable and will be a definite asset:

o        Converged infrastructure (EMC/VCE Vblock)

o        VMware NSX, Horizon, vRealize Suite

•        In-depth knowledge of interoperability between network, storage and server infrastructure, operational tools, and IT service management processes

•        Advanced knowledge of industry best practices, leading vendor architectures and technologies in related areas

•        Knowledge of the Real Estate industry would be an asset.
